5 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Online Health Coach

5 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Online Health Coach

There is a new way to get healthy for those who don’t have time to go to a gym. It’s called online health coaching and its popularity is on the rise. For a lot of busy professionals, it’s the only way they can improve their healthy living. Here are five ways to get the most out of your coaching experience.

Determine the Best Fit For You

Do your research. Interview the coaches and verify their accreditations. Make sure you are willing to be fully open and comfortable with them. Improving your health means you will be getting honest about some uncomfortable habits you have in your life.

To get the most out of your experience, you want a coach who is comfortable with you and you are comfortable with. So, don’t be afraid to ask the questions. If they don’t answer anything you ask to your satisfaction, they probably aren’t going to be the one for you.

Be Open to Change

Once you’ve chosen your ideal online health coach and set up your first appointment, do an internal check with yourself. Are you ready, truly ready to accept and implement the changes the health coach might suggest.

Online coaching is difficult because the person isn’t in the same room with you and doesn’t see you on the street any day of the week, and that means it’s easy to say you’re going to change your habits, but not actually do the change. Do that internal check in with yourself and commit to being open to the changes the health coach suggests. In the end, you get to decide what you’ll do and what you won’t do, but they’re professionals for a reason and their experience gives them an insight you don’t have. So, give them a chance to help you change your unhealthy habits.

Take Responsibility

Along that same line of thinking, as well as being open to change, you must take responsibility for your own actions, thoughts, and beliefs. This is the case especially for online health coaching because the accountability depends a lot on you taking responsibility for what you have done in the past, what you are currently doing, and what you’ll commit to in the future.

Taking responsibility fully for your health will jump start your journey and help you stay on track for many years past the coaching program, so you might as well start it when you start a new online health coaching program. Its benefit will make your health journey go much faster, too.

Be Authentic

Be authentic with your online health coach. You’ll notice I didn’t say honest. Being honest and being authentic, while sometimes similar, are actually quite different. Being authentic means being self-aware enough to tell your online health coach that you probably won’t do those squats every day.

You may honestly believe you could or may want to do them every day, but being honest wouldn’t get you to actually do them. But if you can be authentic enough to tell your online health coach that it’s not going to happen, then together, you can work on something that WILL work for you. It’s key to making your health journey with an online health coach successful.

Be Consistent

The biggest problem with any health program is the struggle to be consistent. Even with an online health coach, consistency is difficult. Commit to yourself and your coach to be consistent with any routine or change you both decide is best for you. It’s counterproductive to decide that you’ll drink Kale smoothies three times a day for two months when you know good and well that you could probably choke down one of those drinks only once every other day. Along with being authentic, being consistent is crucial to making your experience with online health coaching successful.

There will be days when you won’t feel like doing what the coach suggests and you agreed to. That’s actually normal when you are changing your habits, but remembering that consistency is what breeds the success you’re looking for will go a long way toward making your new routines stick. The story that always helps is the one about a toddler learning to walk. They fall down a lot. Almost all the time at first. But the key to every toddler’s success in mastering the art of walking is that they consistently get up and try again. They keep trying until they get it right. Then they go straight to running.

Truthfully, these five ways will help you get the most out of your online health coach and keep your successful health journey on track.
