Types according to function:

  1. Exam Gloves:

The gloves used for general purposes are known as exam gloves. They are most commonly used by healthcare workers and caregivers to protect themselves from various contaminations that could potentially infect them during a procedure or examination. These gloves can also be used in houses and homes to clean up spills in the household and mess created by the pets. You can also clean up gardening or even during oil change in the car. They are very low-cost and also nice to have for just about any situation.

  1. Surgical Gloves:

These are a little specific gloves and you can use them in operating rooms and surgeons use them for surgeries. These are a little advanced gloves and they are more specifically sized to the surgeon. They are designed in a way to allow better accuracy, precision and sensitivity. They are only meant for the purpose of surgeries and shouldn’t be used in any other way.

These gloves can be made in three type of materials and they are the other three common types of medical gloves.

Glove Types According to Materials

  1. Latex Gloves

As the name suggests, these gloves have latex as their primary product. They are really comfortable, and have a tendency of being highly durable and flexible as well. You get the best fit from latex gloves as they’re very flexible, not to mention the high tactile sensitivity to the sense of touch. They even have a barrier protection in the mid-range glove. Latex glove is commonly used by surgeons but remember in case you have any kind of latex allergies, then you must not pick them.

  1. Vinyl Gloves

Vinyl gloves are pretty low-cost due to which they are used heavily. Even if they have low cost, they have high value. They are made from a substance called Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). They don’t have midrange barrier protection, but they do have standard barrier protection. These gloves are really comfortable and soft. As there is no latex in the material, people who are sensitive to latex can use these. However, these are less tactile and durable, and not-so-good for surgical purposes.

  1. Nitrile Gloves

These are latex-free and protein-free gloves, but they have extremely high barrier protection. These gloves are puncture and chemical-resistant. They are ideal for any kind of usage – you can use them as regular exam gloves as well as surgical gloves. Nitrile technology is now the most used technology in gloves. There is next to no contamination because it is chemical and puncture resistant, but they definitely come at a higher price.

So, there you have it – 5 common gloves that are used for medical purposes, and their uses according to their classifications in daily life.
